World Cup Asia 2009

Paintball - World Cup Asia 2009

Did you know that Kuala Lumpur has hosted the World Cup Asia - the largest paintball event in Asia - five times? This year, 120 teams have registered to compete; these teams come from France, UK, US, Guam, UAE, Iran, Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, India, and Malaysia. There's even a waiting list, man.

Held at the Xtion Paintball Park at Kompleks Sukan Negara, Bukit Jalil, this year's tournament will take place from 19 - 22 November 2009. With international press in tow (ESPN has broadcasted the competition) and sweet cash prizes (ahem, US$10,000 for Division 1 winners!!), you can be assured of some good ol' competition.

There's more going on of course, like exhibitions, workshops, games, clinics, etc. To get the full details on that, visit their official website here. They are also the founder and organisers of the Paintball Asia League Series (PALS) since 2005 where events have been held in Thailand,Taiwan and the Philippines. The jewel of PALS remains till today, the World Cup Asia (WCA).

Malaysia's first paintball league, Malaysia Paintball Official Circuit (MPOC), was first organised by us since 2004. Malaysia oldest league is now into its' 5th year and on the verge of turning a very important corner. Five legs are held every year.

Paintball Field Position

Paintball Field Position

As a new paintball team, we had lot of problems handling things like: where we should go and what position we should play in. Through practice we discovered the best field positions (amature level).

For example, in a seven man paintball match, it is vital for you to play 3 front 4 back style. This means that there should should be cross shooting all the time. As a new team we were told to play 4 in front and 3 in back. But we soon discovered that this will put more pressure on the front players since their survival is crucial. It also exposed more of our front to the enemy than we thought.

In any paintball game the snake is a vital aspect. The guy who has both speed and good reflexes should play it.

Next, the middle guy, he should have good vision on what is going on in both sides of the field (left and right). This does not mean that he will have to expose himself in order to do so, but he should know whats going on on both sides.

Next is the guy in the corner (he is like the snake guy), and should be really fast and should have good reflexes, or they will be shot in the break.

Good aim is very necessary in paintball, and it is also very important for you to shoot from the word go. I mean, not the guys who are running to the front, but the other 4 people should start shooting at the opposite bunkers, like the enemy entrance of the snake and the other corners. This will prevent the enemy from getting to those paintball bunkers at the start, and this will give your front men more space to advance into enemy territory, and the even shoot off enemies with ease.

Why Everyone Loves Paintball

Why Everyone Loves Paintball

Today, many people from all over the world are playing or at least have tried playing paintball. It is becoming one of the most popular outdoor sports in the world, an alternative to classic favorites such as basketball and football. It is the kind of game where everyone can play; a competition where things such as gender, social status, age or race does not bring about discrimination or disadvantage of any kind. All that matters is the ability to think and act quickly. Intelligence and decisiveness are the primary factors that can make a person a paintball expert.

The objective of the game is simple enough: To capture the flag of the enemy while protecting his or her own.

Here are several reasons why paintball is a sport well-loved by many people:

1. Physical contact is not really needed. People can dispense fears of being physically injured, or worse, death. Players do not need to hurt their opponents to have them ejected from the game. You only need to mark them with paintballs, and the deed is already done. No fuss, no “black eyes”!.

2. Equality exists among the players. It is the game where a man has no edge over a woman, or the young can take advantage of the old. The only thing that can give a player have an advantage over the other is experience.

3. Even amateurs can enjoy the game. Chances are that a first time player can eliminate an experienced player.

4. One does not need to be an athlete, since the game can be played with minimal physical contact.

5. Paintball players use a lot of gadgets. Everyone loves the sense of childhood one gets when using intricate toys.

6. The fact that one can just eliminate players is a thrill in itself. Eliminating one's opponent is even encouraged, while protecting the team's flag.

7. There is a foreboding sense of danger. It stems from the awareness that one can be removed from the game in just one blink of the eye, and no one is invincible. The fear is enough to arouse a little bit of anxiety in a player, but not enough to make him so nervous he cannot perform his tasks.

There is no doubt that paintball is one of the most exciting sports ever conceived. It is the kind of game where people can experience the stimulation that other strenuous sports provide, and paintball can develop teamwork and camaraderie among its players.

Paintball Playing Techniques

Paintball Playing Techniques in Developing a Good Game

Paintball is an exciting game, but unless you know the right techniques in playing the game you can never win the battle.

Paintball is an example of a war and chasing game. Because of its tremendous impact on people who love highly stimulating games, its popularity continues to grow. In fact, according to the 2005 statistical reports of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers International, paintball currently ranks third among the most well liked intense and ultimate sports.

The Concept

Paintball is a kind of stimulation game in which the players are engaged in a battle. The object of the game is based on “survival of the fittest.” Using paintball guns or markers loaded with “gelatin capsules filled with paint,” every player will try to eliminate his opponents. Once the player is hit by the paintball marker, he is automatically removed from the game; therefore, he can no longer participate.

The Playing Techniques

Since paintball is focused on letting an individual or a team obtain an advantage over the other players, it is important to know some of the playing techniques that will enable the player to succeed in winning the game.

Like any stimulation or war games, techniques are important in establishing the right position, the right plan, and the right approach in order to win the game.

Here is a list of some of the playing techniques that every player must know:

1. Invisibility

This is an important technique when playing paintball because as long as the player remains invisible to his opponents, the more chances he will have of winning the game.

The main concepts of invisibility are: a) motivate the players to play well in the game because they feel good when they are invisible; b) achieve the goal of winning the game because an invisible player is a “tough target” to catch spot ; and c) invisibility initiates comradeship among teammates.

Besides, once a player remains invisible, the longer he can stay in the game.

2. Vision

It is not enough that a player has good camouflage so that he will remain invisible throughout the game. It is also important to obtain tools and devices that would mislead the other players by letting them believe that they have spotted their opponent, but in reality, it was just a ploy.

3. Development

Try to employ movements that would initiate security and clearance from other players that lurk in the area. Stop running or walking every 30 seconds and check to see if the area is clear.

Using these techniques will definitely ensure the player of winning the game.

Paintball - It’s all about the Gun, Baby!

Paintball: It’s all about the Gun, Baby!

A paintball gun (also known as paintball marker) is used to mark opposing players with paint. It uses air (carbon dioxide) to force the paintball out of the barrel at the speed of about 300 feet per second. This will cause paintballs to break upon hitting somebody but will only cause mild bruising to a person. This could blind a person, though, thus making it a necessity to wear a face mask or eye protection such as goggles.

There are four types of paintball guns and they are classified according to their firing modes. These are pump action guns, semi-automatic guns, fully automatic guns and ramping-mode guns.

In the early days of paintball, all guns were pump action. Each shot would require the person wanting to shoot to manually pull back the bolt to let a paintball fall in front of it and then manually push forward the bolt to bring the paintball in the position to fire. This was excruciatingly slow when compared to other firing modes used today, but is loved by many people as it teaches the importance of a person’s skill with his gun.

Semi-automatic guns were designed so that when the trigger is pushed down, a shot will be fired and the bolt moves back automatically to load the new paintball in position for the next trigger pull. This allows the player to increase firing frequency and accuracy because he will not have to manually pump the gun.

Fully automatic guns are those that will continue to fire paintballs as long as the trigger is held down. The Tippman SMG was the first to feature a fully-automatic gun.

Ramping-mode guns are guns that can fire up to 15 shots per second. This type of gun prevents abuse from semi-automatic guns or fully-automatic guns that can shoot more and can cause injury to other people.

These types of guns are used in different kinds of situations, usually to prove who the best player in a tournament is. Pump action guns promote using stealth and are desired by experienced players because of the challenge they present. Semi-automatic guns are used by players hoping to improve their shooting accuracy and since they do not have to pump every shot, they are able to concentrate more on their targets. Fully automatic guns are used by infantry and middle men in attacking another team’s base.

Ramping-mode guns are for controlled environments where there is a specific rule to prevent injury and other problems.

Paintball - Positions

Paintball: Positions

Although there are no official positions used for the purposes of scorekeeping, most paintball teams use three broad terms to describe positions: front, mid or insert, and back.

Front players are the pawns in speedball. They are typically fast and small, and take most of the field at the start of the game. They shoot very little compared to a back player but are the main source of eliminations, usually stationed in two types of bunkers: the snake or dorito.

Mid players are the "plan b" of a paintball team, usually playing an insert position where if a front player were to get shot out they would fill into their spot and take over the front players role. Mid players will also relay information that starts from the back players (having the best field of vision) to the front players (with relatively low field of vision).

Back players' main goal is to protect the front players and relay information to the entire team. They are the ones that are shooting hoppers of paint at the start of the game hoping to lane the opposing front players. Back players come on the field with upwards of 7-10 pods and shooting hundreds or even thousands of paintballs.

Paintball Team Building

Paintball Team Building

Paintball has proven to be an extremely popular activity for corporate events, as well as other types of group days out, because paintball is excellent for team building. Paintball is designed to engage a team in an activity which demands various skills and techniques.

In working together to combat the opponent, a paintball team develops communication skills, planning, cooperation, decision-making and effective use of resources. In this way, the consolidation of a team throughout a paintball game proves to be one of the best team-building activities. This new approach to facilitation and experiential education combines the thrilling experience of a paintball game with the sequenced facilitation of an educational adventure.

Before beginning play, each person is outfitted with coveralls, face mask, and CO2-powered marker which uses marble-sized, water-soluble paintballs. A referee explains the safety rules, and then instructs the teams in a variety of incredibly fun and challenging games that will focus on your groups stated goals. Team Paintball is excellent for developing advanced problem solving skills, communication, and group coordination.

Paintball is a competitive game played like any other competitive game, to win. It is like a more challenging, high-stakes version of tag, hide-and-seek, or capture the flag. Because you shoot at other people (and get shot at!), paintball requires specific equipment (goggles, a gun/marker, pressurized gas, and paintballs). Beyond that, paintball is hard to describe. It can be played indoors or out, with as few as two people or as many as 500; a game can last 5 minutes or 24 hours; it’s objective might be to take something, bring something, find something, or to simply be the last person standing.

Depending on the game play you play, tactics will be vary as well -- from being quiet and sneaky and picking your shots carefully, to being loud, fast, and shooting constantly. A paintball game can be different every time, but there’s one thing that stays the same: it’s an adrenaline rush.

Paintball is one of the safest action sports in the world today. It is a sport anyone can play. It teaches safety, teamwork, problem solving and decision making.

How to Become a Good Paintballer

How to Become a Good Paintballer

1. Make sure you know the weight of your own equipment. Your equipment should not be too bulky or heavy, as this will put you at a great disadvantage on the field.

2. To learn the basics you will need to learn "marker" positioning. First put on your mask (to make it more realistic). You can use a little laser pointer taped to the barrel of the marker to represent were you would hit if you fired a paintball. Now, with the pointer on and the mask on, put it into firing position. Learn that position. If you can, (put the marker barrel-down) and try to estimate were the shot would hit before you even bring up your marker. Quickly bring up your marker into firing position. Practice this for a while, and then without the laser pointer.

 3. Even expensive paintball guns can have bad firing rates(you can fix that). Take your middle and index finger and place them in the air as if they were a pair of scissors. Position your thumb straight and pinkie and ring finger like you're holding a gun. Take your middle and index fingers and place them on the trigger. Start pulling the trigger slowly back and forth, then get faster and faster. This is called "walking the trigger". You will have to put more pressure on those fingers in a real marker trigger. Try this out with different guns, and find the one that you can fire with the fastest. There are market triggers available for almost all guns. (This will only work for markers with a "double trigger." That is, a trigger that has room for two fingers.) This technique is also called "spray and pray" since you are not usually concerned with accuracy; only with getting a lot of paint into the air quickly.

 4. Running and shooting: not much to say here; it's mandatory in paintball. With the laser pointer, put the gun into firing position. Then aim the laser pointer at a wall inside your house. Try to keep the laser on the wall steady as you go from walk, jog, to running. You will feel comfortable after a while.

 5. Master the art of bunkering. When you're in a three-on-three man match, get into a bunker! When you find your man, start firing. After you do get your man, make sure he is the only threat shooting at you. Keep him in or let him run out of paint then run towards him, fire off a couple rounds and make sure you hit him. You can try to bunker him when he is least supecting it or have your teammates pin him down, then bunker him.

 6. Learn how to snapshoot (this is where you are in a gun fight and you pop out of a bunker just enough to get some shots off and go back in). Watch your position. One way to perfect your shapshooting is to practice in front of a mirror. Get behind an object in front of the mirror and practice making accurate shots by popping out of the object, or as called, bunker.

 7. Be prepared to reload in a gunfight. Make sure you have paintball pods in your harness. Relay information to your teammate(yell "reloading, COVER ME!"); "Cover me" is the key phrase. Now open your hopper. Keep a finger on the trigger, take a pod out then pop the top of the pod, and pour in the paint into the gun. Throw your pod on the ground(don't worry, you will get them back), close the hopper and start firing. You may not want to yell "reloading" because the other team will hear as well, and try to bunker you. Practice reloading and you won't have to ask your team to cover you.

 8. In speedball, most parks will make you put your barrel or gun on the dead box (the place you go behind or in when you're hit), then they will say 3,2,1 real fast or normal take off to your position front, middle or back. Start firing now.

 9. Position info. There are 3 main positions in speedball: front, middle, and back.
          * The Front man is the one who relays information about what is going on to the middle and looks for windows or openings to bunker or take out a player.
          * The middle player relays the info from the front to the back. they shoot a lot of paint, so they should have a good hopper and be great snapshooters.
          * Back men shoot a lot of paint to try to get men out and help out with the openings for the front man.

10. Walk the field and have a game plan.

11. In woodsball, sometimes called recball, strategy and communication are key. Have a strategy and communicate with your teammates. Two of anything beats a single ace.

12. Go have fun out there paintballing.

Have fun and see you soon....!!
